Advert description
I offer personalised, empathetic guidance to meet the individual needs of each child, in their preferred learning style; specialising in ASD & trauma. I successfully taught a child who Drs said she would never read, to do so in six months, & encouraged children who were mute for years, to speak. I encouraged a trauma-affected, aggressive child; angry with the world, to love learning and life. I make learning interesting through stories, anecdotes, rhymes and games, to engage students and help them understand, and remember, what they need to learn. I have successfully taught or tutored in early intervention, preschool, primary, secondary school, and university. After several years as a teaching- Principal, I was one of the first, and youngest, in Victoria, to be awarded Advanced Skills Teacher Levels 1, 2 & 3, the first time it was available. I am able to help children others could not, by taking a genuine interest in them, quickly building trust, and a positive rapport. This allows me to get to know them well enough to be able to design a teaching program to suit their specific needs, challenges, and interests. One child wanted so much to present perfect work samples, that she would cry if she made the slightest error. I listed all her positive traits, as ‘I am … ‘ statements, and asked her to read them every night before going to sleep, and every morning before getting up, to boost her self-esteem. After a few weeks, she was so much more confident when I gently pointed out that she had made a small error, instead of crying, she said, “It doesn’t really matter though does it?”, and the entire class clapped! One student said, “She’s never said that before!” I gave her a ‘high-five’, smiled, and said, “That’s right. It doesn’t really matter!” Her relieved mother said that her confidence had improved noticeably at home, too. The most rewarding part of my long and varied education career has been helping children with special learning, or well-being, needs to succeed and feel good about themselves. Now I offer my decades of experience, and dedication, to you.
