Advert description
I am a self-motivated, enthusiastic graduate who is passionate about the development, both personally and academically, of the students I teach. I recently completed my Bachelor of Arts in International Relations with French, achieving a First-Class degree, and feel this aptly represents my commitment to my work. During my degree I spent a year studying at a university in the south of France, and thus speak French fluently, and enjoy being out of my comfort zone in new situations.
During my school and sixth-form years I volunteered in my local library teaching Maths and English 1-1 to primary school children, as well as specialised teaching for those with learning disabilities. This was incredibly rewarding, and inspired my further tutoring experience; 2 years with the platform 'MyTutor' during my university years. I tutored children from year 7 to year 13, in a range of subjects, including English Literature, English Language, Maths and French. I have experience and enjoyed teaching both 1-1 and 3-1 classes over term-long blocks, as both gave me a chance to develop relationships with the students during which they became much more confident in their own abilities during lessons.
I focus my approach on the student's own learning style, requirements and level, whether that be building their confidence initially, or for those comfortable in their own abilities, pushing them to direct their own learning both inside and outside of lessons. For those students approaching exams, I find the use of past papers most beneficial to allow them to become comfortable facing examination questions, and to focus their learning in the direction of the exam requirements. For students years away from facing such exams, I focus on strengthening their understanding of key concepts of the subject, through a mixture of discussing, creating presentations on such concepts, and mini-tests.
