Advert description
I have enjoyed working in several secondary schools over many years, within all subjects, but specialising in English. This has enabled me to develop a thorough knowledge of the GCSE English literature and Language syllabus and I am trained in a phonics programme called Lexoniks which aims to improve speaking, reading and writing skills for students where English is an Additional language (EAL). This has enabled me to meet pupils from all around the globe who struggle with the pronunciation of English words despite having a superb understanding of reading and spelling.
Additionally, I have specifically worked with Special Education Needs (SEN) students who have many barriers to learning and I have undertaken many courses in understanding dyslexia, ADHD and Autism. This experience has helped me to relate to the challenges facing many students who are experiencing both physical and emotional problems in accessing their academic potential. I am confident that my lessons will be accessible to all students.
Previous to this, I enjoyed working as worldwide cabin crew for 20 years travelling around the globe and spending time immersed in vastly different cultures, but more importantly, understand the communication difficulties, so I believe my lessons will allow students to relax and learn English in a fun and interactive environment.
My family life is with my husband, our three adult children and our elderly terrier called Tilly. We still love to travel and learn about new places, in particular, various foods from around the world. This is always an exciting topic to discuss within our lessons and I am always interested in new recommendations and recipes . I’m a prolific reader and have been part of a book club for over 20 years. Sharing reviews of your latest texts is always encouraged. English Literature is a wonderful subject and a fantastic resource to learn the idiosyncrasies of the English language.
