“Art in schools shouldn’t be side-lined. It should be right there, right up in the front, because I think art teaches you to deal with the world around you. It is the oxygen that makes all the other subjects breathe” (Alan Walker, Filmmaker). I share this viewpoint and believe that art subjects taught well, and with enthusiasm, lead not only to academic success but to well rounded citizens, able to contribute to society.
I have been a teacher now for 17 years. My main subjects at the moment are photography, graphics and 3D Design.
I like to think my lessons are fun and engaging. I like to teach by example particularly in photography. I like to show students how to use a camera properly, to set up studio lights and to create aesthetically pleasing photographs using different techniques: long exposures, light writing, fast shutter speeds, neutral density filters etc. I have extensive knowledge of Photoshop and have taught Photoshop techniques from KS3 to KS5.
In the years I have been teaching photography I have formed meaningful and lasting relationships with my students and I have many students that have then gone on to study photography at University.
I am a keen photographer myself and I am always looking to upskill myself and try out new techniques. To further my knowledge and expertise, I have recently completed L2 and L3 in Photography accredited by the University of Arts London.
I believe that my skills and expertise are perfectly suited to tutor students to excellence in Photography.
