Advert description
I have 17 years of teaching experience of students between 8 and 80 years old, complete beginners to advanced students, up to Artist Diploma level (I have assisted prof Kullberg at the Royal College of Music since 2017).
Besides my main profession as a performing cellist and baroque cellist (performing with Southbank Sinfonia, Gabrieli Players, Orchestra Nova, Opera Holland Park, Brandenburg Sinfonia and Baroque Soloists, Florilegium, OAE Experience and others), I am also a music researcher in historical performance practice of the baroque and romantic era, and I give lecture recitals on my research topics. I am also a composer and orchestrator and I teach this as well.
My lessons are structured around each students individual needs and goals. I have a high focus on mastering a good cello technique to achieve a higher level of musicality and sound production. I supply this with music theory and history to give a broader understanding of music, the cello and the sound and articulations we decide to make.
I am perceived as a pedagogical, patient, friendly, motivating and creative tutor. I work with what you bring to the lesson, whether you have had time to practice or not, which means you will always learn something in every lesson.
I teach modern cello, early 20th century cello, baroque cello, orchestral repertoire and chamber music. Besides technique, music making and performance, I can help you towards orchestral auditions, 17th and 18th century performance practice, particularly on the J.S. Bach Cello Suites, early 20th century performance practice, and on contemporary music. I also teach orchestration and arranging, composition, music theory and aural skills. I take on students of all levels and give private lessons in my home in Winchester or through Zoom or Skype, or Forte which provides excellent sound quality.
