Hello, my name is Matthew J Gunn. I'm a commissioned screenwriter and film tutor. For the last two decades I have tutored and run workshops at universities, colleges and schools across the creative arts (including film, TV, stage and creative writing). It has been for students of all ages to ignite flair and ambition in their chosen creative subject. I have specialized in Creative Writing (scripts and books), Directing for the screen, Producing and Film Theory. I have done this across all education levels (MA, Degree, A Level, A/S, GCSE and adult workshops).
In recent years this has been tutoring students interested in both Film Theory and Film-Making. Including learning the writing-directing craft for courses and those who are looking to develop their own material in their spare time. This includes how to structure scripts, direct for the screen, create treatments and how to pitch, market and sell concepts. From students looking to complete a course, to those wanting to work in the industry, or, those who wish to develop ideas in their leisure. I continue to mentor students after tutoring them if they want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.
My workshops are structured for students interested in learning the writing craft and developing their own material. This includes how to
A) Structure your script or novel. Including 3act structure and alternative structure. Building character arcs. Key points and plot beats.
B) Writing the first drafts to re-drafts and read-through.
C) Creating a Pitch/Treatment and Concept Bible.
D) How to sell your script or book from agents to producers, to legal contracts.
A single lesson is between 1-2hours.
In the entertainment industry as a writer and producer I've had feature screenplays produced and distributed through Sony Home Entertainment, 4 Digital Media, Archstone Entertainment, and Greenway Entertainment. Alongside award nominations at LA Neo Noir, LA Cinefest, Buffalo and London Portobello Road. Stage plays I've written and directed have been performed at venues including the Rhoda McGraw, New Victoria, and London Courtyard Theatre. As an author I have four published books.
