Advert description
In order to learn more about the individual I would start with a series of questions (mini test) to identify the strong aspects and areas of improvement. After this my focus area with the pupil would be where their knowledge and application is limited. I briefly tutored 2 students over summer one a aspiring year 9 and one who was just about to start year 7 and immediately from their initial work I knew that their vocabulary was limited which I believe wouldn't help them when it comes to the creative writing aspect of their education so, a regular homework I set was a chapter of reading each week with a quiz at the next session to make sure they have maintained the information. I believe reading will help a child have a broader range of knowledge of vocabulary that also may help them when analysing extracts during an exam. I also wouldn't completely abandoned the focus topic after I am satisfied with their improvement I would regularly recap with them to make sure they are maintaining that skill, maybe one every 2 weeks. Furthermore I try to encourage that students bring up anything that they feel they are struggling with rather than go by what I believe is best for them as helping them with a topic they are not confident with will boost their resilience to work harder on the next topic.
