I have been a tutor for some time now, supporting and guiding students from Year 2 till GCSE/A Level. My skills of communication, engagement and teaching have enhanced immensely in the past year.
I provide an engaging lesson, being careful it isn't too boring so students stay enthusiastic but simultaneously, I am disciplined when it comes to tasks. I begin with a starter lesson, to get to know the student and make them comfortable. I also assess them to view their strength and weaknesses, so I can begin to form resources and materials in the following session. I set out homework, which is thoroughly explained and expect it to be completed at the best effort possible. I give critical and detailed feedback, so students are able to use it in their next work, perfecting it.
I have worked in three different tuition centres and have had great results. I focused on a year 5 student, helping him prepare for the 11+. After a year of hardworking, he successfully passed with high marks and will soon join a grammar school.
I also gave a 1-1 to a GCSE student who struggled in English as she disliked it alongside poor grades (Level 4). Spending 5 months non-stop, engaging her in tasks and giving her top tips to use in the exam, she received an 8 in her mock exam.
I believe I can make a positive impact on students, engaging them with the task. Not only will students look forward to lessons and improve in English, but they will grow to love English itself!
