By focusing on how a student learns and then applying course content, instead of content first and everything else later, a more useful education is earned. I have volunteer and informal tutoring experience, and am very aware of classroom settings and the recent student experience.
Overall, my main focus would be the student. Taking what they say about thier education and applying years of educational knowledge of the school system, specified learning, and the subject itself to help them study and learn. No one learns the same way, and tutoring is a great way to subvert standardisation and help improve grades, yes, but also intrest and enjoyment of a subject.
