The three things I have found most important in teaching are: 1) Creating a friendly and comfortable environment for the students. I know that anxiety is a major problem for young people, and making sure that they feel as secure and relaxed as possible means they are in a better mindset to learn, and hopefully will actively want to learn. 2) Avoiding jargon and explaining the concepts clearly and in an understandable way. Ensuring that the content makes sense means it is more likely to stay remembered, compared to just rote memorisation. 3) Making the content interesting and relatable and injecting life into the course material. This can be achieved through examples, metaphors or stories; transforming the concepts into something they can imagine rather than just read.
