Maths teacher: Summer catch-up sessions in-person or online

Hello! I'm Sophie, and I currently teach Maths and Engineering at a local college, alongside mentoring and assessing science apprentices. I have a Master's in Meteorology, which has taken me from Wales to the USA working and teaching. I have always been fascinated by the interplay between numbers and the world around us, and I love being able to share that with my students.

Having taught KS3, GCSE, A-Level and undergraduate courses at university, college and secondary school level, I have experience teaching a wide range of ages. I have also taught Essential Skills Numeracy and Digital Literacy to apprentices and have spent time out in the community teaching numeracy skills to adults who may have left school and regretted not getting those qualifications!

Maths doesn't have to be a chore! My fun and vibrant approach, where we link the knowledge and skills required to pass exams with real-world applications (have you ever wondered how we predict a thunderstorm or the results of a football match? Or, how we can think of colours entirely in math?), builds motivation and helps you recall information under pressure.

I follow a structured approach and plan each session in advance, even if it feels more relaxed and flexible while we are actually working together. We will build a set of notes and revision material that allow you to study both with and without me. You will have the opportunity to use these notes to complete practice problems in between sessions and, if you find that something doesn't work for you, we will approach it differently next time. We will build topics from the very basics, pulling out what the question is actually asking you to do, before applying your new skills to real-world examples and, finally, practicing exam questions that will now look a lot less scary!
