I have taught in a range of ways from formal teaching in a university environment to helping my friend's kids get their head around things like their times tables. Whatever the setting, I like to work using examples that are easy to remember! For example, when teaching the times table, I used bags of marbles. When learning the three-times-table, I would put three marbles in each bag. I then asked them to count up the amount of marbles when I have two bags on the table, three bags, etc. and then repeat. This helped them understand the root and application of the times table in simple terms as well as then memorising them to save having to keep counting them up!
