Advert description
I studied my BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care Undergraduate Degree at Northumbria University which included my dissertation based on exploring university student’s school experiences with having a learning difficulty. At University of Sunderland, I studied Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) to teach Health and Social Care. My placement was at Sunderland College. I was working with Level 3 Extended Health and Social Care Diploma Second Year students on units such as Mental Health and Wellbeing, Promoting Positive Behaviours and Research Skills. I worked with Level 1 Health and Social Care students on units such as: Introduction to Health and Social Care, World Skills and Compliance. I am currently working as a Learning Support Worker at East Durham College. This job is helping me gain the experience in a college environment supporting students in a range of different subjects in foundation and mainstream. This includes subjects such as Childcare, Foundation, Sports, LEAP and Catering. I am mentoring a Level 3 Health and Social Care student who attends work experience once a week. As well as working in Learning Support, I am gaining additional teaching experience in Care at East Durham College. I am teaching Level 2 Certificate in ‘Supporting Teaching and Learning’, working with a lecturer providing activities to adult learners one night per week. It is important to keep up to date with my subject area whilst gaining experience. To expand my experience working in a college, I worked in the Nursery one evening to gain experience in childcare. This involved socialising with young children between the ages of 2 to 4 years old at teatime and reading them stories. At weekends, I was a volunteer at Thornbury Care Centre, Sunderland. This involved socialising with the residents, providing refreshments and activities for them to enjoy. I have been working with dementia residents and care home staff. This has helped me gain additional experience working in a care home setting. I have started gaining health care experience at Sunderland Royal Hospital. This is by being a Ward Helper, spending time with patients on the wards and observing the role of nurses such as Respiratory department. In 2023, I worked as a Support Worker to gain experience in the care sector. I was employed by We Care Be Spoke which is a respite care service.
