Experienced Humanities Tutor with Track Record of Exam Success and Student Subject Enjoyment

I have a PhD in Biblical Studies and Classics and have been tutoring in the Humanities (English, History, Classics, Religious Studies, Philosophy & Ethics) for 5 years, helping a wide variety of students - remedial work with primary school students, extension work for bright Year 7s and 8s, GCSE and A Level student, university students, and mature students doing Open University work.

I aim to achieve two things in my tutoring: to help the student achieve their objectives (exam success, improving essay style, etc) and to help the student enjoy their subject, seeing that it is a broad, deep, and exciting area of study. The two of these work together: students who enjoy their work do better at achieving their objectives!

I seek to achieve these aims by modelling a learning experience round the student's own style and needs. I regularly see students making 4 grade boundary improvements (e.g., E to A) and describing much greater enjoyment of their subject afterwards.
