I have been teaching maths face-to-face and online since 2006 in a prison environment and as the in-house tutor of a children's charity. I have particular experience with SEN learners, using humour, patience and the cognitive method to overcome barriers to learning and engagement with conventional education if appropriate.
I have little interest in raising a clever student's maths grades from 8 to 9, instead focusing on students having difficulties with the subject, through a lack of confidence or some other challenge to learning. In my experience, many young people fail to achieve their full potential due to unaddressed learning issues; the vast majority of my students have benefitted from an individualised and empathetic approach to overcome their distinctive speed bumps.
