I currently support some asylum seekers to learn English as part of an organisation I support. I believe in free flowing speech spurring the desire for people to improve thier speech. One main aspect is for those in the session to leave with phrases or sentences they will need to use in day to day life. By using them they will hear more responses more often which they will become familiar with and will use in other scenarios as thier identifying of words, sentences and contexts develop.
