Extremely passionate about science, I am fresh out of university having achieved a masters of biochemistry. I am looking to begin tutoring for children having had given small lectures for the Bioscience community.
Advert description
My experience is limited to presenting my findings to lecturers and fellow students about complex computational bioinformatics techniques to resolve protein structure. This required me to develop my communication skills to break highly complex concepts down into more digestible information using layman's terms. I believe this skill is essential for teaching especially to a younger audience where everyone can be at very different stages in their development in several ways.
I imagine this could be the speed at which information is registered, the vocabulary by which they understand a concept, or temperament to get over learning something tricky which could easily frustrate and demotivate a individual/group.
I understand from personal experience that learning is a process that takes places inside and outside of the classroom therefore I would aim to make learning in my sessions as enjoyable as possible. I would hope that concepts therefore could land more fully by using real life examples they could get involved with during playtime even when I’m not interacting with them.
Overall, I would be committed to helping students keeping engaged and enjoying science.
