First, I’d assess the student’s current understanding of mathematical concepts, I’d listen actively to their questions and concerns, ensuring I understand their perspective. Then we would build a foundation on core mathematics, then move into complex topics one step at a time and breaking it down as we go. I would give the student the opportunity to work on problems to learn from their mistakes and develop problem solving. I will also use graphical aids so that they can visualise mathematically what they are doing and trying to solve. After, we would then recap and review and practice more to build confidence and accuracy in solving new mathematical problems.
