English Tutor with training in the US and UK at uni and grade school levels

Advert description
I received an MA in English Literature with a specialisation in teaching pedagogy from Western Michigan University, where I taught for 3 years on courses mainly about how to write English and how to write at a university level. Alongside this, I wrote my own course about adaptations of medieval literature into modern novels or films. Additionally, while researching for my PhD at the University of Exeter, I taught writing classes in the history department. With the wide range of students across majors of study, levels of experience, and neurodivergence, I have a vast range of experience.

A lot of my experience as a teacher has been working to find different methods of learning that work for students. With one-to-one languages, that allows for further specification to craft lessons that work for how the student actually learns. This method of teaching is more difficult to implement in a larger classroom, but individually, this allows for a student to have their own say in what they need to work on. I have also taught classes for students who needed further help in the classroom due to neurodivergence or troubles outside of the classroom, so am experienced in working with a student who needs further attention than is usually available in a more regular classroom.

In the UK, I have taught within the English and History departments at the University of Exeter, while in the USA, my students were from all departments due to how universities are structured so I have experience teaching students from a range of experiences. The majority of my experience has been teaching first year writing, which has been focused on getting students to a university level in their essays and preparing them for the course ahead. I tailored the course to the focus of each student as best I could, since different departments have different requirements from a student. Beyond this, my focus in literature is medieval literature and medieval influences on literature and other forms of media into modernity, including films and video games. I do translation work in Old and Middle English alongside Old French.
