Advert description
I have an undergraduate degree in Geology and a Masters degree in Exploration Geology. I also have A levels in Chemistry and Physics.
Growing up in a household of parents as teachers, I definitely felt a sense of admiration and respect for their profession and from a young age I felt as though this was a career for me.
I believe that listening is a key skill in teaching, as there is no single teaching method that works for every student – these need to be adapted to specifically help certain individuals who learn in different ways. For example, I personally learn and retain information through diagram drawing with repetition, where others may benefit from mind maps or bullet-point sentences. Through the last seven months of tutoring a GCSE student, I have adapted the way in which I teach from a lecturing style to helping the student produce ‘key-cards’ for revision once the learning is understood. I tailor my teaching to the way different students learn as it is frustrating for them to struggle to understand concepts which may be better taught in different ways.
I believe that teaching is a vocation and feel ready to start helping others learn, further their knowledge and challenge ideas. I expect to create positive connections with students which will result in them feeling more comfortable and confident in the classroom. Another part of teaching is the teacher – parent relationship, which I believe is key to understanding and helping the student perform at their best. I would talk with students to help them understand their realistic goals, but also to help them understand their potential, which will positively motivate, challenge and reward students.
I offer online or in-person tutoring, with online prices for GCSE at £15 per hour, A level £20 per hour and Degree level £25 per hour. In-person tutoring prices would be based on travel time from my home.
