Lessons from a High School AP Calculus Teacher

I have a Bachelor's in Mathematics, two year's experience tutoring all levels of math from Algebra II to Discrete Maths and Abstract Algebra, as well as two years of experience teaching High School Calculus, including AP Calculus AB and BC. I have research experience in topology and take a category theoretic view of mathematics. When tutoring one-on-one, I feel it is important to activate students' prior knowledge and guide them to the answer via Socratic questioning. I also try to give high level motivation and context for any new concept so that the maths they are learning feels like a connected subject with a through-line rather than a collection of unrelated topics.
