English as a Foreign Language tutor, or interpreting exam preparation

I have 38 years’ experience in teaching English to students for whom it is not their first language. My approach to teaching is tailored to each student’s needs, whether this is a complete beginner who is starting to live in the UK, a student who wants to improve their English for a better job, or someone looking into an interpreting and translating career.
I graduated with a BA in teaching English and French as foreign languages in 1990 from the University of Bucharest. There, I studied with the best language specialists and academics in the country at the time. I specialised in the grammar of the verb, with emphasis on complex verbs. In 2010, I took my CELTA, giving me the possibility to teach, English, French, and Romanian to any adult who wants to learn, whether I speak their language or not. Additionally, I have been a professionally qualified face-to-face interpreter since -I passed my DPSI Law exam, and I joined the team of language specialists at the International School of Linguists.
I can tailor methods, activities, and exercises to the needs of the learner, and will give homework which may take the form of writing practice or conversation, among other types of tasks. My technique is a technical one, starting from the ground up or building on skills the student already possesses. I have many methods which will help students remember and apply language rules more easily, such as mnemonics and patterns, as well as others.
I am also able to tutor students looking to sit their DPSI exams themselves. For this type of tutoring, I will provide information on the operational systems, specialist vocabulary, code of conduct, and ways of obtaining work. With tailored role-plays and specialised texts for all types of translation to cover all interpreting techniques, I will help you to feel confident in your ability to pass the DPSI exam.
