Advert description
I have been a maths teacher for over 101years. Working predominately in Further Education, teaching resit GCSE Maths. I like to help my students to become fluent in the nine basics of maths as this supports all of their learning in maths - this would be an element in each tutoring session, before moving onto the main topic for the session.
Each session will be tailored towards the student and their individual learning needs. Students are encouraged to be open about the areas that they are struggling in, and need to be prepared to work hard in the session and be challenged.
Sessions will also be geared towards the final exam (so I need to know which exam boards an individual student will sit with), and some practice of exam questions will form part of each session.
A large part of the maths exam is being able to problem solve and pick out the relevant information from a question - this again will feature in sessions.
I make use of current good practice in teaching maths, eg using ratio tables and bar modelling as tools to help to solve problems, these are especially good for visual learners.
I use an encouraging teaching style - including when mistakes are made and we use this as an opportunity to explore misconceptions and why the mistake was made.
