Advert description
I am currently in the second year of my PhD in epidemiology at the University of Manchester. Prior to my PhD study in the UK, I earned a master’s degree from Peking University and gained valuable work experience as a medical consultant at Elsevier, an esteemed international publisher.
Throughout my academic journey, I have actively engaged in tutoring. Since my undergraduate study, I have been a part-time private tutor, teaching various subjects, including math, English, Chinese, physics, chemistry, and arts, to students aged 10-18. Many of my students have been accepted into their dream high schools or universities under my guidance.
In August 2022, I joined a language school in Manchester, where I teach Mandarin to British-born Chinese students aged 6-12 every Sunday. Using YCT level 3-4 textbooks, I focus on phonics, speaking, listening, and writing skills. I employ diverse teaching methods, such as presentations and paired dialogues, resulting in outstanding outcomes. At the end of the first term, all the 12 students passed the YCT level 3 test, with two achieving full marks in both listening and reading sections.
As a native Chinese speaker with excellent English language skills, I effectively facilitate smooth communication and comprehension for my students. I utilise multimedia resources and interactive techniques to ensure an enjoyable and enriching learning experience. Additionally, I prepare PowerPoint slides, incorporating cultural aspects and idioms to make learning engaging.
Having experienced the challenges of learning Chinese myself, I understand the unique needs of learners and tailor my approach accordingly, whether it's conversational Chinese, written comprehension, or cultural understanding. I take pride in spreading Chinese culture and helping British-born Chinese students build their confidence, not just in the language but also in their identity.
Throughout my tutoring experience, I have fostered a positive and encouraging learning environment, emphasising a strong mentor-student relationship. I believe this approach is crucial to academic success and creating a safe space for students to express themselves and ask questions.
