Advert description
Learning a new language isn’t easy. At the beginning people are often instilled with fear, worried about making grammatical mistakes or others unable to understand their accent. This is why I try to adopt an approach of calmness in my classroom. An environment where the student feels at ease to discuss the matters which are most important to them, whether that’s their family, business or culture.
I have found that allowing a student to speak freely at first helps boost their confidence and then over time I can iron out grammatical errors. Sometimes that will be by telling the student directly or focussing a worksheet or homework exercise on the matter, depending on the individual and their level.
When dealing with students who are a little shy, I adapt to their needs, find out what interests them and try to get them to lead a discussion on the matter. This normally requires me to do my own research on the matter too, which is something that I enjoy.
Having lived in several environments I think that I have a good understanding of how different people learn best. I am comfortable adapting my teaching style to the individual needs of the student through experience
