My education at a top 10 private school (Haberdashers Aske's Boys School) afforded me some of the best opportunities for further study and work, which enabled me to travel the world and experience new cultures. I want others to have access that same quality of education in the online space. In particular those who are disadvantaged and with learning difficulties, as I myself have Autism and ADHD and want to help students find their own learning styles to reach their potential. I was fortunate enough to apply my Economics degree by working as an economist in think tanks and engineering companies. Here, I learnt how STEM subjects are applied to real-world infrastructure projects to build buildings, roads, bridges, transport hubs and entire cities.I want to inspire the next generation by showing them how maths and sciences can be used to solve everyday problems and build a better world. I strongly believe that the teaching profession needs more teachers from the business sector that understand how to prepare students for the world of work. My conversations with my old school revealed that kids are being encouraged to ‘follow the money’, but having worked in business for 13 years and experienced much success, I know that job satisfaction and having a higher purpose are equally important. Helping students enjoy these subjects and how they can be used to be of service to their communities is why I want to teach.For example, I am now a Director of a social enterprise and education centre that teaches children and adults how to connect with nature. This involves 1-2-1 teaching that gives people practical survival and off grid living skills including how to make fire, interpret bird language and forage in the wild. I myself am continuing and learn to grow. I am currently studying my second degree in Engineering part time and I have been visiting off-grid sustainable communities to see how others live. I also am learning to play fingerstyle guitar and songwriting through use of online materials.
