Advert description
I am a motivated individual, with a passion for both historical research and education. I am currently in the final year of my UKRI funded PhD in History at the University of Sheffield, my thesis focussing on the history of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and the role of evidence-based medicine in twentieth-century British clinical psychology. I have experience teaching undergraduate students at the University of Sheffield, predominately in twentieth-century history, the history of medicine, and global history. I won awards for my undergraduate dissertation at the University of Sheffield, which conducted oral history research with Bosnian refugees in Derby, receiving the second highest overall BA grade in the year, and was awarded the British Society for the History of Science (BSHS) award for my MA. I am also a qualified English language teacher, and have ESOL teaching experience in London and in Spain. I have also worked as a a private history tutor for students undertaking their GCSE and A-levels. My pedagogical approach is interactive, engaged, and responsive; I understand that every student is different and work collaboratively to ensure classes are tailored to the individual.
In 2021 I completed the necessary requirements to be awarded status as an Associate Fellow for the Higher Education Academy (HEA). This is recognition of my teaching ability at University level. Completion of the award involved being observed teaching L1 history modules, reflecting on my teaching philosophy, and observing seminars given by senior lecturers. I have worked as an Associate Tutor teaching undergraduate history students at the University of Sheffield. Between September 2017 and July 2018 I worked as a class ESOL teacher in Granada, Spain. This involved organising and delivering English classes for students aged between 5 and 10 years old. I was the sole class teacher for this year, and developed skills of class management and content creation. My work as an English teacher (for which I have a TEFL qualification) built upon my experience as a private history tutor for students completing GCSE and A-level history (-).
