Advert description
Hello! I’m Helena, a BSc Economics student at the University of Nottingham.
I have experience tutoring students of various age-groups, from KS2 to A-level. Within subjects, I have taught across multiple exam boards.
I place particular importance on tailoring lessons heavily to suit each student’s needs. We all have different learning styles, and I have found that allowing a student to work in a way that accelerates their progress is most effective. To achieve this, I will begin our first session by understanding the student’s strengths and weaknesses. From there, I will plan our lessons ahead of time and build a personalised timeline to maximise understanding.
I’ve found that a huge part of deep understanding is being able to explain concepts to someone else. Before moving on to the next topic, I ask the student to explain back to me what we have just covered, which opens us up to meaningful discussions on the material. This encourages active learning rather than passive note-taking.
I have also spent time researching active recall and spaced repetition. These cognitive strategies enhance both long-term retention and deep understanding. I implement them into my lessons, where we methodically review content at optimal intervals.
Having excelled in both my GCSEs and A-levels, I feel confident in my ability to help my students reach the top grades. In terms of 11+, I achieved 100% on both verbal and non-verbal reasoning.
I look forward to meeting you!
