I am a final year BA Korean student at SOAS University of London, the top university in the language for undergraduate Korean studies. I also recently completed my year abroad at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, South Korea, the top foreign languages university in the country. Whilst there, I graduated top of my class from their intensive language programme in addition to receiving an A+ in classes in Korean culture, literature, linguistics and translation, all taught completely in Korean.
In 2021 I took the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK), an exam designed by the Korean government, after only 2 years of studying Korean and received a grade of 6/6, achieving 98% in the reading and listening sections and 90% in the writing section, compared to an average score of 66%, 58% and 39% respectively. My Korean is accurate and fluent, and I achieved this through a combination of self-study, 1:1 tutoring and university classes.
Additionally, I have over two years of tutoring experience teaching English online and tutoring my peers in Korean. I have taught over -online English classes to students with a wide range of abilities, including children, teenagers and adults.
I specialise in developing tailored learning programmes for all of my students based on their strengths, weaknesses and individual goals. My classes are adaptable to students' interests, abilities and availability, and range in focus from conversational language to academic.
Whilst in Korea, I received a scholarship from the Hankuk University of Korean Studies in recognition of my working designing and delivering a curriculum for English for Korean university students, focusing on developing conversational fluency whilst also developing comprehension skills for academic and literary texts.
