I select the topic. I give an overview of it to my students. Then I make flow charts, tables and notes on it. Make the students aware of the topic. After the class, I ask them short question on the day's topic. After each topic, I make a mind map of the important things on that topic and send it to my students. This helps them to remember each and every single thing during exam especially competitive ones. As I have experience of teaching international students, I can adopt myself at any kind of teaching style.
