Advert description
I have a Master's degree in Foreign languages and in Education and Training. I have been a certified teacher for 8 years. As a foreign language teacher, I favour the target language at all time so that the pupils can immerse themselves as if they were in a foreign country. I usually start my lessons with rituals so that the students can aquire automatic skills and habits in the target language; these rituals are often reassuring for the learners and allow them to be involved and to be orally active during the lesson, even those who are more reserved or who may have difficulties in speaking in a foreign language.
Language learning also involves an action-oriented approach with the production of final tasks at the end of each chapter, for which the use of certain digital tools is sometimes required. In addition, for the past 3 years I have been undertaking a correspondence project on years 8 and 9 with Scottish pupils of the same level and I have also made them write Christmas cards to the Royal Family in order to make learning the language more concrete. Furthemore, in order to stimulate the teenagers' interest in learning a foreign language, I have worked with language assistants using this opportunity to do some drama exercises for example. I have also started an "English club" during lunch time to offer a more playful approach to awaken students' curiosity and interest towards the English language and culture.
In my class, in order to encourage oral communication and help the learners to take the floor, I usually have the students work in groups and award points when they participate or succeed to complete the activities. This method has many advantages, particularly in terms of involvement in the activities and oral participation on the part of all the group members , including the ones with the most difficulties in the subject.
In addition, I work on the preparation and implementation of interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with colleagues from other subjects, in particular Spanish, History-Geography, French and Physics-Chemistry. These projects are beneficial for students since they promote the transfer of knowledge and skills and provide additional meaning to the notions studied.
