Advert description
I am primarily a blues, rock, classical and jazz guitarist. I have been playing for 15 years and have taught all levels for 7 years.
In the beginning I like to focus on understanding which notes and basic chords work together through learning songs that the student enjoys listening to. Once a certain level of fluid movement on the guitar has been reached then we can jump in to grading material, whether that be classical, pop, rock, blues or jazz.
For higher level students, I primarily like to focus on what I call “Economy of Movement”. Saving time moving between chords and melodies, landing on the correct finger for the next section to flow correctly. Almost as if playing the guitar is a positional game.
I encourage all of my students to listen to and learn music outside of their comfort zone. I also emphasise that being able to improvise and express yourself creatively and melodically is a discipline that comes with time, but can be the greatest achievement of any musician.
Can teach finger-style picking or with a plectrum.
