Grade 1-3 Piano and Maths Tutor in North London area

Advert description
In and around Muswell Hill / Crouch End and Highgate area.

I started teaching piano as a teenager more than 30 years ago. I can teach at my place (classic upright piano) or home visit. In and around Muswell Hill / Crouch End and Highgate area. Lessons are between 20-45 mins long depending on abilities/ grades.

I also teach Singapore Mathematics Curriculum to children between 4-7. It focuses on Mathematical problem solving. Approved by the Ministry of Education in Singapore, Singapore’s maths textbooks build deep understanding of mathematical concepts through multi-step problems and concrete illustrations that demonstrate how abstract mathematical concepts are used to solve problems from different perspectives.

The lesson is between 30-45 mins, this can be one-to-one to meet specific needs or up to three children in a small group. Children will be given some worksheets to complete before the next lesson. I aim to build self-confidence in learning mathematics among my students. My lessons do not replace school education but it is a high value supplement. My objective is to develop positive attitudes towards the learning of mathematics. I encourage students to become independent learners.

I highly recommend to have both piano and Maths tutorials in the same session. It can be 20 mins piano lesson follow by 40 mins Maths tutorial; or the other way round. Both mathematics and music require certain cognitive skills, such as pattern recognition, spatial reasoning, and memory. I personally believe that the development of these skills through musical training could potentially have a positive impact on mathematical abilities (the extent to which this is true varies from individual to individual).
