I first came to live in Southern Spain in 2010 and I had 3 rules: I won't speak English, I won't gravitate towards expat communities, and I will integrate by throwing myself in at the deep end and learning only the from the locals. That technique worked for me, and it can work for you, too! I'm passionate about helping other foreigners who live here to achieve a high level of fluency in colloquial Spanish, and especially the Andaluz dialect - a level that enables them to thrive, rather than just survive, in this beautiful society. I feel this is crucial in enabling British tourists and settlers to embrace Spanish culture with gusto. I have done some Spa-Eng translation work in my career, and I'm also pretty good at teaching people how to speak Spanish without a British regional accent. This is always my first class: the alphabet and the phonetics of Spanish. Without a good grasp of the pronunciation of each letter, you'll never be fluent or sound like a native. I can guarantee to improve your pronunciation within an hour! I’m also obsessed with key word transformations and how you can literally invent hundreds of Spanish words, simply by knowing a few top tips to translate from English with ease. I have 9 years' experience teaching Spanish online and face to face. I’ve taught children’s group classes in the UK and also set up and facilitated an adult’s Spanish Club in a local pub, providing a popular space for practical Spanish conversation and learning in a casual and fun environment. I’ve used props, games and music to make sessions engaging, fun and memorable. You’re never too old to learn through play! Having said that, I am a grammar geek and enjoy answering any tricky questions you might have about sentence structure, reflexive verbs, pronouns, and Ser vs Estar, for example. The vast majority of my students have been beginner to intermediate level, and I pride myself on excelling in teaching Spanish from scratch, and helping you continue that process - from beginners to beyond. I always focus on the individual needs of my students - so whether it's holiday Spanish, Andalusian dialect comprehension, progression of personal goals, grammar and fluency or simply the fun of learning a new language, I can help.
