• Increased Teacher to Student Communication
When you take part in online piano lessons via Skype video calling, it can feel like the other person is in the same room as you, even if they’re actually thousands of miles away. As long as you have a fast broadband internet connection, video call piano lessons via platforms such as Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger can be just as effective as in-person piano lessons. The fact that neither you nor the teacher has to travel anywhere makes this method more convenient and less expensive. Sheet music: Both student and teacher will need to have the same sheet music to refer to. I can provide you with free sheet music from public domain sources which you can either print off or read from your tablet or laptop. There is a huge selection of free public domain sheet music to choose from, and much of it is essential repertoire for building solid technique within classical training, which will give you the skills to tackle any style of music. Alternatively if you prefer to work from a book of sheet music I can recommend what to buy, or guide you through something you already own. I teach all styles of music.
What will you get from the lessons?
• Learning the piano increases concentration, focus, discipline and patience.
• Powerful confidence booster
• Practical Skills: sharpen sight-reading, memorisation and improvisation piano techniques, knowledge of a variety piano methods, better understanding of keyboard geography, theory knowledge.
Why take Theory Lessons?
Learn for fun or prepare for exams.
Distance learning makes it convenient and easy. Any exam board or just learn for personal interest.
I teach music theory as one to one tuition online by email correspondence, either as part of my online piano lessons or as a stand-alone course. I am UK based, but offer distance learning world wide.
My music theory lessons cover a wide range of interests and needs, any ability - beginners to advanced.
They will suit you if: You want a good all round understanding of music theory. You just want a better understanding of how chords and harmonies work. You need help learning to read music notation from scratch. You want to take ABRSM music theory exams (or music theory exams with any other examination board). You are just aiming to pass your ABRSM grade 5 music theory. You need help with advanced theory: including harmonisations, figured bass, composition etc.
You want to cover a more general analysis of musical styles and genres; or study music appreciation.
The tuition I offer is personal, so you get feedback on whether you’re doing the theory exercises correctly or not. I will also answer any questions you have. The fact that you can have a conversation with a qualified instructor about any aspects of music theory makes this a more effective way of learning than just following many of the widely available online tutorials which are one sided and lack the option of giving feedback on your learning.
The personalised nature of the tuition I offer allows for much more flexibility, and the ability to go down a path that suits your needs rather than following a rigid curriculum which may not be the best course for you.
