Advert description
I have a Masters Degree in Adolescent Education - English from Hunter College in New York City, as a well as my New York State Teaching Certification, including coursework on Adolescent Development and Educational Psychology. I have four years of classroom teaching experience, spending two years completing fieldwork as a teaching assistant at The Richard R. Green School of Teaching, The Clinton School for Writers and Teachers, Promise Academy, and Bedford Academy. Following this, I was offered a permanent position and served as a classroom teacher at Bedford Academy for two years, during which time I taught classroom and remote (during the COVID-19 pandemic) English and AP courses to Sophomore and Junior high school students. My role included creating semester syllabi, daily lesson plans, rubrics, and course visual materials; administering assessments; providing ongoing feedback; and conducting weekly extra help sessions for all those interested or mandated by the school. I worked closely with school administrative staff, English department members, Special Education teachers, guidance counselors, and student families to tailor teaching approaches to individual needs. I strongly believe in the value of hands-on, personalized support for English students of all ages and levels, including scaffolded learning to improve reading comprehension, essay writing, public speaking, and listening skills. I have strong knowledge and experience with literary analysis, exam preparation, vocabulary building, term paper composition, and argumentation rhetoric. My instruction is supported by a wide-ranging career as a business writer, editor, and manager, providing me with extensive experience in practically applied English Language Arts skills in the corporate environment.
