Advert description
I teach by first getting to know the student and their desires. How I plan my lessons depends on the student. In some cases, students know very well what they are unclear about, and I can cater to their desires and formalise a plan to tackle their studies. We then methodically address all the areas the student is unsure of and, along the way, I can identify extra topics and skills the student could gain to be even better.
In other cases, when the student is unsure where to start from or is completely lost in mathematics, I have my own set of "tests" to judge their level and mathematical thinking ability. I can quickly understand their level and teach them things they need to improve before going to harder topics.
Lastly, at times, where it is appropriate, I employ the Oxford style of teaching. I give students work sheets before the tutorials, which they solve during the week and send me their solutions before the class. I can then mark their work and structure the whole class around the work sheet, ask them reflective questions about the topic, and deepen their understanding. This usually comes with additional costs, but this is most likely the fastest way to become really good at mathematics. Yet, this requires a good previous mathematics foundation for the student to be done effectively.
