I like to be able to present concepts clearly, but I believe that slowly working through a process is important for student understanding, hence I use a writing tablet most of the time. I believe an essential aspect to both online and in class learning is consistently and effectively questioning students to assess their progress and engagements. For online classes, I often allow the student time to independently work without distraction, without support, for a few minutes at a time, to effectively challenge the student.
Although much of the learning is done during the time I spend with the student, most consolidation work should be done by the student in their own time. I believe that additional self-assessments skills are critical and would always encourage students to practice as much as possible independently.
