Experience: • English degree from a British university • 6 years teaching English as a Berlitz teacher in Japan • 4 years teaching English as a private tutor • Experience preparing students for TOEFL, TOEIC and Eiken exams • Specialised experience teaching students from Japanese culture, but happy to teach students from all backgrounds. Teaching style: My teaching style is very relaxed and positive, I am good with shy people. However, for more confident speakers I am also firm, and will encourage you to speak accurately. Before our first lesson I will ask you to choose one of the following lesson styles: • Role-play based lessons (good for people about to go abroad on holiday, for study or a business trip) • Textbook based lessons (good for students studying for an exam, want to do better at school, or are studying for fun and want some structure to the lessons - you will need to buy a textbook separately) • Lessons based on written material you prepare in advance (good for students who want help with homework, work e-mails, university essays etc.) • Free conversation lessons (good for students who already have some English language skills and want to keep practising). In all types of lessons I will start by arranging a goal for that lesson with you, and by the end of each lesson you will have learnt a set of phrases to help you in the situation we focussed on in the lesson.
