Advert description
Hi there! I'm Shirin Shaikh, a passionate and dedicated biology student currently pursuing my MSc in Molecular Cell Biology at Queen Mary University of London. My academic journey has been driven by a deep fascination with the intricate world of microbiology and molecular sciences.
I bring a robust academic background, having completed my Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, and Zoology from Karnatak Science College, where I maintained an impressive GPA of 3.45/4.0. My current research is focused on an exciting project investigating virulence factors in clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, working under the supervision of Dr. Crystal Vincent.
My scientific toolkit is quite diverse. I'm proficient in laboratory techniques like aseptic methods, microscopy, and microbial culturing. I've developed strong analytical skills through my research, with a keen eye for detail and robust problem-solving abilities. My technical skills include basic programming in Python and R, which complements my scientific approach.
Beyond academics, I'm multilingual – fluent in English, Hindi, and Kannada, with proficiency in Telugu and Marathi, and basic knowledge of several other languages. I'm currently a Student Ambassador at QMUL, where I represent the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences and help guide prospective and current students.
My practical experience includes an internship at Shri Bhavani Pharmaceuticals, where I gained hands-on experience in laboratory testing and pharmaceutical quality analysis. I'm an active member of the Microbiology Society of India and have participated in conferences and webinars on cutting-edge topics like bacteriophage research and single-cell RNA sequencing.
I'm not just about academics – I'm passionate about community engagement, having volunteered at health camps and participated in various cultural activities. My goal is to contribute meaningfully to scientific research and education, bringing creativity, dedication, and a collaborative spirit to everything I do.
