I think one to one teaching is the best, as each student needs to improve their skills in specific areas or their objective is to improve their language skills in specific areas. This is why I believe communication with the student is really important to find out in what areas he is interested in improving. Either speaking, writing, pronunciation or specific language are the most common. I have experience teaching informally Spanish, English, French, Italian and Catalan to some friends or people that have reached to me for some help.
