Understanding is critical in my lessons and I often take a very methodical approach to teaching, doing everything that I can to keep my students away from rote learning and making sure that they actually understand the content and are then able to apply their knowledge to other problems.
Chemistry is my specialism, however I am also proficient in physics, biology and maths. I put a lot of emphasis on maths in my lessons, ensuring that the content is understood rather than simply repeated.
In all of my lessons I like to develop a culture wherein my students feel comfortable having a go at questions, knowing that they will not be judged for getting questions wrong, and that they will instead be praised for trying. 'The best way to learn is by making mistakes' I tell them, and I make sure that my students know this.
