As for the methodologies to the beginners, I plan to start with simple daily conversations to cultivate students' sense of Chinese language. Then teach them Pinyin (Spelling) to standardize pronunciation, and then teach them Chinese grammars, from simple to difficult. In addition, I plan to analyze a simple and interesting short paragraph in each lesson to promote their Chinese learning. If it is for students who already have a certain foundation in Chinese, I will start from their needs. If it is for tourism, I will teach some everyday expressions such as greeting, asking directions and prices. If it is for reading literature, I tend to teach some written language and add some reading exercises. It mainly depends on the needs of the students.
As regards as the specific format of the course, if you are only interested in Chinese and do not have any special needs, I am going to make some beautiful slides with few words per page and phonetic notation. The purpose is to let students learn some new vocabulary first. Then, watch some videos, such as comedies, movies, etc. (unfamiliar words will be shown on the slide first), to increase the interest of the lesson. Finally, I will discuss their local history or current events with students in Chinese, which will help students become familiar with the topics discussed and enhance their sense of engagement.
