Advert description
ABOUT ME
I am an experienced Film/Media & Drama lecturer and have worked in the University sector for over 20 years. I teach both practical and theory courses and have a life long interest in filmmaking, creative writing and the theatre.
As a filmmaker, I have substantial experience and have nurtured the talents of thousands of students, whether taking A Level (Film and Media Studies), City & Guilds, HND and Degree courses. I understand the systems and processes of assessment in all these fields and have written courses and degree programmes for both the Further Education and University sectors.
I have a deep understanding of Film and Media theory, from A Level through to Degree, having taught specialist courses in Cinematography, Documentary and Independent American Cinema.
MY TEACHING STYLE
My approach is very simple. I start by identifying your needs, which may be determined by the requirements of coursework. However, you may be contacting me because your wish to extend your creative skills for the purpose of advancing your career, or needing a ‘critical friend’ to support your academic and creative work. Whatever your situation I am flexible and want to negotiate an approach that works for you.
I fully understand the student ‘struggles’ around exams, essay structures and the creative writing process.
YOUR APPROACH TO LEARNING
To be candid, you have to want to learn. There is no room for ‘going through the motions’. I will help you clarify your learning objectives and formulate a plan that will support your learning, but ultimately you will need to be motivated to engage in a process. Of course, our ‘negotiated learning plans’ can be modified, according to your changing needs. It should be remembered that education is an evolving dialogue between pupil and teacher. There are different types of learners requiring different learning styles.
Ultimately, I am really keen to help students reach their potential and there is no ‘one size suits all’ approach to this.
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
