Advert description
Since the past year, I have been volunteering as a refugee tutor with Vibha which is a non-profit organisation aimed at underprivileged children. Through this I have a taught 2 children between the ages of 10 and 16, math and English. This was one on one tutoring however there was another volunteer who would do another hour with the children and we would have a set plan for the sessions. We started by identifying each student's strengths and weaknesses through initial assessments and discussions. Lessons were customised to address gaps and build on existing knowledge. I used a variety of teaching methods, including visual aids and technology such as khan academy and Desmos, to make abstract concepts understandable. I encouraged active participation and critical thinking through problem-solving exercises and real-world applications. Regular practice, along with immediate and constructive feedback, ensured continuous improvement. I aimed to create a positive, encouraging atmosphere that boosts confidence and inspires a genuine interest in math. If given the chance the tutor here, I aim to do the exact same with the students I tutor.
