To best help pinpoint and address problems in ones mathematics ability, I typically structure each tutoring session around a specific topic the student is struggling with. Then we start the lesson by going back to the very basics of the topic, making sure that we have an understanding of the key principles and are able to complete simple questions. Then we move on to tackling slightly more complex questions that are similar to the difficulty they might see in the classroom, making sure the student is able to apply their understanding correctly. Finally ending the session with some exam style questions, focusing on how the content we have learnt can be applied in a range of different mathematical contexts.
