What helped me when I was doing GCSEs and A-levels was understanding the content as opposed to relying on just memory. I have always prioritised understanding the content and making sure my notes reflect my understanding. When it came to areas of difficulty, such as protein synthesis or structures of complex mathematic equations, I had my notes to fall back on that explained the content how I understood it. With repetition and further development of my knowledge of the subject topics, it helped me gain the grades I wanted to achieve. As a tutor, I will always make sure to also prioritise understanding and recognition rather than encouraging them to blindly memorise.
As I am a psychology student, I can utilise what I know of the memory stores and the attention span of children to ensure that the content that I am tutoring helps them with their studies and exams. I am fully aware that children may not always seem motivated or retain every detail of information and aim to tailor the lessons around what their capabilities and needs.
