Advert description
I have a Combined Honours Arts degree from Liverpool University and a PGCE. I have taught in the UK and in top international schools. I have taught students both English Language and Literature to all abilities at KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have also taught many students one to one. My first lesson would be to get to know you and work out your preferred learning style. This helps me to prepare lessons that you will enjoy and will help you to make progress. I want to build your confidence and enjoyment of the subject. Each lesson would begin with a 'warm up' and this could be a mini quiz, a word search, a crossword, or it could be more challenging. This would be a stimulus for the next stage of the lesson. The main part of your lesson would have a clear aim which would be shared with you. Once I knew your particular topic/text to be studied I would plan a personal lesson. I do believe it is also important to be flexible if you felt there were questions you wanted answered or there were tangents to be explored. I think one to one teaching can feel quite intense and so having fun and sharing humour is important. Ending your lesson on a really positive note matters. I would want you to feel upbeat and looking forward to your next lesson. I would also leave you with a challenge of some sort so that you would have to think about the next steps or/and do some independent research. Reading is such an important skill this would be built into each lesson and I encourage all students to read everyday to improve their writing and to stimulate new ideas. Reading can really develop your emotional intelligence too. Reading regularly develops confidence in every subject you study. I would help you to choose a book you would enjoy and become a lifelong reader.
