Firstly, I would help my students with specific subject topics that they feel weaker on or they need some extra practice on to ensure they feel confident they can gain as many marks as possible in a real test( help with ratios and proportion/ geometry/statistics etc...). Structure of the lessons will always be catered to helping the pupils from this point. If the students feels confident on all topics we could walkthrough a past-paper together, as I would provide step-by-step guidance on tougher questions. Or if the student is struggling to get to grips with the core principles of a specific topic, I would happily take extra time to teach a student the topic with examples so they can develop further knowledge in each topic. For English tuition, with the student we would initially cover all base principles of grammar to identify strengths and weaknesses in the pupils subject knowledge( what is a simile/ metaphor/ embedded clauses etc...). Once the student has shown they have an adept understanding of these concepts, we would go over past papers from years 2018 onwards to let me examine your child's comprehension skills and what can be improved. Many children are fond readers and writers so I will always be willing to read and mark creative writing stories!
