Online italian tutor, lecturer and translator trainer

Advert description
I am certain that my teaching knowledge in the field of Italian, experience in using technology or other techniques to enhance learning and assessment, as well as my enthusiastic interpersonal skills, make me the ideal candidate for this post. I have always been enthusiastic and passionate about learning and teaching all aspects of my native language and culture. My love of teaching comes from a deep and thoughtful engagement with the practice of pedagogy as well as from innovative research.

Whilst my doctoral degree in Translation Studies, which I obtained in 2008, focuses on the constraints and limitations of translation in puns and wordplay, my major research interests in language teaching lies in finding innovative ways to cater for diverse learning styles, extrinsic motivation and students’ affective filters with the aid of technology. At the University of Oxford, my work in this field would provide a useful bridge between the international reputation of research in your Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages and offer an improved commitment to teaching excellence and technological innovativeness.

My first degree is in English and Spanish as Foreign Languages. My advanced knowledge of these languages and my experience matured in years, allowed me to work as full-time qualified (QTS) classroom teacher with secondary school learners in the UK in their preparation of a series of language qualifications, GCSE and A-Level (Italian & Spanish). I have developed considerable versatility and flexibility in the full range of teaching-related activities such as designing, preparing, teaching and assessing a range of different modules.

I started my career in 2002 in Italy where I worked as teacher of Italian as foreign language for immigrants and refugees from Africa and Afghanistan. Most of my students had mixed ability language skills. As a result, apart from teaching I also acted as an interpreter and cultural mediator. This experience allowed me to deal with delicate and sensitive situations requiring sensitivity and discretion, and I learned how to interact and cooperate in a multicultural environment. Moreover, this experience has given me the opportunity to develop my commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion. I am able to engage with a range of students across a variety of forums.

I use translation as a teaching method in order to raise cultural awareness using language. In order to stimulate students’ interest,
Antonio in a nutshell
My lessons focus on the 4 main skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. A lot of speaking because learning a language is like driving a car, if you do not speak you will never learn to drive.
